Online Workshop Proposals Are No Longer Being Accepted

The National Youth Leadership Council invites you to submit proposals for workshops at the 21st Annual National Service-Learning Conference. We seek workshops that will help service-learning practitioners break through today's challenges and achieve success by presenting the newest, best, and brightest ideas that will provide Inspiration to the field; spark Imagination; and bring about new and bold Innovations.

All workshop proposals must be received no later than midnight CST, September 25, 2009.

About the Conference
The National Service-Learning Conference is the largest gathering of youth and practitioners involved in the service-learning, movement drawing nearly 2,500 attendees from across the United States and many other countries. The conference’s multiple day, concurrent session format offers a self-directed, facilitated learning environment with education sessions, discussion groups and interactive workshops designed specifically for all levels of attendees engaged in service-learning and focused on current and emerging issues, best practices and the challenges facing us today. All sessions are 90 minutes in length.

About Proposals
NYLC is seeking proposals that help inspire peace and social justice, imagine solutions to environmental issues(particularly water quality), and offer innovations relevant across the world's stage. We are especially interested in proposals that illuminate one or more of the eight K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice.

NYLC is always interested in proposals addressing youth involvement and leadership, intergenerational connections, and diversity. We strongly encourage proposals from young people active in service-learning.

In writing your proposal, please keep in mind the primary audiences for this conference:

• K-12 Educators
• Administrators
• Students (elementary, middle, high school, and college)
• Professors/Researchers
• Community Partners

Selection Criteria
Proposals will be assessed based on their relevance to the conference theme, content quality, creativity of delivery approach, and incorporation of the following K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice:

1. Meaningful Service
2. Link to Curriculum
3. Reflection
4. Diversity
5. Youth Voice
6. Partnerships
7. Progress Monitoring
8. Duration and Intensity

Submission Guidelines
1. Proposals must be submitted on the NSLC 2010 online Call for Presenters website.
2. Please print a copy of your proposal submission for your records on the final confirmation page.
3. In addition to filling out the online form, you must provide the following information as an uploaded attachment to complete the application:

    a. One paragraph describing the primary presenter’s qualifications and experience. (An optional paragraph may be included for each of the co-presenters.)

    b. A narrative description (1-2 pages). Describe all important aspects of your presentation, including:
    • Description of format
    • Goals and objectives
    • Overview of presentation content
    • Benefits to participants
    • Opportunities for participant interaction and reflection
    • Relevance to the conference theme: Inspire. Imagine. Innovate!
    • Handouts and presentations you will make available electronically on the conference presenter portal

4. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
5. Presentations must be limited to 90 minutes.
6. NYLC reserves the right to edit workshop titles and descriptions for length and content for the official conference program guide.
7. Academic degrees will not be included in the program guide.
8. No more than two proposals will be accepted from the same individual or organization.
9. All communications will be sent only to the primary presenter.
10. All presenters must register for the conference.

Workshops average 20-30 attendees. We encourage presenters to post handouts and presentations on our online conference presenter portal. Information about this process will be sent to accepted presenters.

Written notification on the status of your proposal will be emailed to the primary presenter by November 13, 2009.
