SIETAR-USA Scholarship Opportunities

It is our pleasure to announce that a limited number of partial scholarships are available for attending the 2009 SIETAR-USA Conference in Cary, North Carolina. Our intent with the scholarship is to support and provide access to the conference for those who might not otherwise be able to attend. In order to apply for these scholarships, it is necessary to meet the following criteria and provide the information requested below.

  1. Demonstrated interest in intercultural education, training and research through course work, academic or community activities, and/or active participation in organizations that serve diverse populations.
  2. Academically registered student in good standing with supporting letter from an academic advisor or professor, or employee/volunteer with community-based non-profit organization (ex: refugee resettlement, student exchange) with supporting letter from the director of the program or organization.
  3. In 2002, the SIETAR-USA Board of Directors voted to award one scholarship to a qualifying member who is gay, lesbian, or transgendered.
  4. Past recipients of this award are not eligible for further scholarships.
  5. Recipients must be available for limited volunteer hours in support of the conference, in order to more fully engage in the conference experience.
  6. There is an additional scholarship named in memory of a Minnesota SIETAR member, The Robin Bragge Memorial Scholarship. For specific information on this scholarship, please send an inquiry to pamelad.reed@gmail.com or info@sietarusa.org.

Please send: (1) a letter of application explaining how you meet the criteria, (2) a letter of support, and (3) a one-page resume that includes two references. Applicants are encouraged to send all application materials via email scholarships@sietarusa.org. If needed, materials may be sent by regular mail post to:

Deadline for application: Feb 23, 2009. Recipients of scholarships will be notified by March 2, 2009 prior to the Early Bird registration deadline. Please share with any interested students and/or nonprofit personnel to whom this might apply.
