The Third Intercultural Development Inventory Conference

Introduction

Welcome to the third Intercultural Development Inventory® conference, to be held on September 21 & 22, 2012 at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota! The theme for this year's conference is:

New Frontiers: Using the IDI to Build Intercultural Competence

The IDI® conference is designed to deliver professional development opportunities for current IDI Qualified Administrators and an introduction and overview for those individuals who are new to the IDI.

In addition to outstanding concurrent session presentations, the 2012 IDI Conference will include three exciting new features:

Master Workshops delivered by top IDI Qualified Administrators focusing specifically on how to enhance your IDI practice with groups and individuals. These Master Workshops will be offered on the morning of Day One – at no additional charge!

Dedicated DialogueSessions to allow face-to-face, in-depth discussions with presenters regarding their use of the IDI in assessment and research, group training and individual coaching.

Awards Dinner Friday evening following the conference there will be an Awards Dinner with a full course meal, preceded by a social hour and followed by music and dancing. The cash-bar social hour will begin at 6:00pm and festivities will conclude at 11:00pm.

The goal for the conference is to share resources, tools, and best practices for building intercultural competence through IDI Guided Development®. IDI Guided Development is a term that describes how to use and leverage IDI assessments for developing intercultural competence that achieves identified goals. During the conference, participants will gain practical insights and tools for skill building in:

  • Individual development and coaching
  • Team building
  • Training design and delivery for groups and organizations
  • Needs assessment and program evaluation
  • Organizational development and change efforts
  • Applying research to practice

My intention in sponsoring the IDI conference is to create a supportive, cooperative space for IDI Qualified Administrators to share practical insights and best practices that encourage knowledge and skill development. With over 1100 IDI V3 Qualified Administrators in more than 38 countries using the IDI, coming together at this conference will allow us to improve our work with the IDI and truly facilitate increased intercultural competence within our global community.

Exciting plenary sessions, skill building workshops, dialogue sessions, and presentations highlighting IDI best practices and research are planned. In each session, leading-edge applications and the latest research will be presented by IDI Qualified Administrators.

A special Introduction to the IDI session for all newcomers will provide an overview of the IDI and IDI Guided Development to allow you to maximize your conference experience.

I am convinced you will find the IDI Conference very worthwhile! I look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis, Minnesota!
